The Snowdrop ( Galanthus nivalis)

These lovely pure white,drooping flowers are one of my favourites. Snowdrops, or Galanthus to give them their correct name, are the classic winter flowering plant.When the snowdrops flower you can guarantee spring is not far behind!
The Snowdrop
Already now the snowdrop dares appear,
The first pale blossom of th'unripen'd year;
As Flora's breath,by some transforming power,
Had changed an icicle into a flower,
Its name and hue the scentless plant retains,
And winter lingers in its icy veins.
